The Global Companies Building the Metaverse

The metaverse is entering a stage of strong development. Small crypto-based projects, creators, and games produce content and meta platforms alongside big tech companies like Google and Facebook (Meta). As the trend has become more popular, the giant tech companies that have platforms that already complement the metaverse have started their own developments. Google, for example, has taken a subtle approach emphasizing augmented reality to connect the digital world with the real world.

Meta, formerly known as Facebook, has gone in the opposite direction and made obvious moves into the metaverse. Which includes his much-hyped name change. The company already owns essential virtual reality hardware and has its Libra cryptocurrency project.

Microsoft is focusing on the virtual offices and work environments of the metaverse. Businesses will create durable virtual spaces for their employees to work and collaborate on a deeper level than standard video calls.

While Binance is not actively developing in the metaverse, it does offer essential crypto infrastructure. For example, the Binance NFT marketplace platform brings together buyers and sellers of digital assets from the metaverse. Binance also offers liquid markets for trading metaverse tokens.

Epic Games has two main strategies for the metaverse. First of all, it looks to improve its technology and user experience base to support more players. He also wants to help creators design professional 3D assets for the metaverse.

The Chinese company Tencent is one of the world's largest video game publishers and messaging service providers. The company has publicly mentioned its focus on gaming as a gateway to the metaverse through its existing technology.

Why are companies interested in building the metaverse?

Many of the companies we will mention already have leading platforms in key areas of the metaverse. Tencent has WeChat, Meta has Facebook and Instagram, and Epic Games has Fortnite, just to name a few. It seems likely that such platforms will get involved in the metaverse in some way, so it makes sense that these companies would develop their own solutions for it.

We have also witnessed great success in terms of innovation and income from crypto projects in the metaverse. Projects like Axie Infinity, Decentraland, and Roblox have inspired new generations of developers and big companies. Startups and technology companies are already immersed in a race to develop the latest big technology trend. Let's take a look at some of the top companies and what we can expect from them.

In an interview on Bloomberg, Google CEO Sundar Pichai explained his vision of the metaverse as "immersively evolving computing with augmented reality." In fact, Google already has a lot of experience with augmented reality thanks to its Google Glass product. In November 2021, Google also reorganized its Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality departments into a new Google Labs team that includes the Project Starline holographic video conferencing tool.

Currently, Google is focusing more on connecting us through augmented avatars that blend the digital world with the physical. While we haven't yet seen a solid metaverse proposal from Google, the groundwork has already been laid.
